Republican Sen. Steve Daines’ sudden retirement decision earlier this year opened up the primary for former U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme, who quickly earned President Donald Trump’s endorsement, too. Five Democrats are also running in the red state, and independent Seth Bodnar — the former president of the University of Montana and a former Green Beret — will also be on a crowded general election ballot.
