The latest news and top stories on the investigation into a rape allegation at Cornell University
Social media posts have generated thousands of comments expressing support for the former Cornell student who alleges she was raped, with women sharing their own accounts.
Jane Doe, who has said she was raped and plied with drugs at a Cornell fraternity house in 2024, “deserves to know that every fact will be examined and justice pursued,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said.
The findings are drawing renewed attention after the local district attorney said he was reopening a criminal investigation into allegations of a 2024 gang rape at the university.
Jane Doe said two of the men asked her to have sex so many times she gave in, which “felt like coercion,” and that she felt “the most intoxicated I’ve ever been.”
In recent years, advocates have lobbied for changes to state law that would make it easier for victims who voluntarily consumed alcohol or drugs to seek criminal justice.
In a civil lawsuit filed this month, a former Cornell student alleges she was sexually assaulted, raped and plied with drugs by seven Chi Phi fraternity brothers.
