Wildlife shelters in northern Europe were struggling to cope with the number of animals being brought in suffering from the heat.

The National Weather service issued a flood watch for much an area of Missouri that includes Kansas City Stadium, the venue for Saturday’s World Cup match between Ecuador and Curaçao.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur are continuing to bring life-threatening effects to the Southeast.

The Upriver Fire was burning about a mile east of Spokane and had burned 222 acres by late Wednesday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Much of the Southeast had been dealing with a prolonged drought. Five to 10 inches of rain could fall in parts of Texas — which could cause life-threatening flooding.

Firefighters are fighting the rapidly growing Upriver Fire in Spokane, Washington, which has burned more than 220 acres and is 10% contained. KHQ’s Belle Lewis reports on evacuation orders and local wind conditions.

“Go Now” orders were in effect for an area near the Washington city of around 231,000 because of the Upriver Fire, which broke out near Camp Sekani, officials said.

Meanwhile, the Midwest is bracing for severe storms Wednesday, and the West faces record-breaking heat.

About 20 million people are under flood watches Monday morning, stretching from central and southern Texas to Louisiana and central Mississippi.

Thunderstorms and extreme heat are forecast for millions of people this weekend.
