Glaser pays tribute to the late Rob Reiner

In the closing moments of the ceremony, Glaser appeared onstage in a "Spinal Tap" hat, a tribute to the movie's director, Rob Reiner, who died last month.

"This one went to 11," Glaser said, nodding to one of the music mockumentary's famous lines of dialogue.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Ringer, were found fatally stabbed in their homes in Los Angeles on Dec. 14. Their son Nick Reiner has been charged in their killings.

The ceremony does not always feature an In Memoriam segment.

'Hamnet' director Chloe Zhao looks stunned by win

"Hamnet" just won the final award of the night — best drama film — and director Chloe Zhao seemed visibly awestruck.

In her acceptance speech, Zhao recognized the "Hamnet" crew members who lost loved ones during the film's production. ("Hamnet" was distributed by Focus Features, a unit of NBC News' parent company, NBCUniversal.)

Zhao is already a Globe and Oscar winner for the Covid-era road movie "Nomadland," which also won the Academy Award for best picture in 2021.

Wagner Moura dedicates award to people 'sticking to their values'

"The Secret Agent" star Wagner Moura, accepting the award for best actor in a drama film, reflected on the film's themes and dedicated the prize to people "sticking to their values in difficult moments."

He said the movie is about "memory, or the lack of memory, and generational trauma. I think that if trauma can be passed along the generations, values can, too," Moura said.

In the film, Moura plays a principled scientific researcher who is forced to go on the run after offending a businessman aligned with Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s.

Another winning streak for 'Adolescence'

Picking up its fourth win of the night — the most of any show or movie so far — “Adolescence” is looking likely to sweep the Golden Globes just like it did the Emmys.

“Some think our show is about how we should be frightened of young people. It’s not. It’s about the filth and the debris we have laid in their path,” writer Jack Thorne said onstage, adding, “Removing hate is our generation’s responsibility. It requires thought from the top down. The possibility seems remote right now, but hope is a beautiful thing.”

“We live in a very divided country and world right now, but I think cinema — and I call TV cinema, too, I’m sorry — brings us all together, not only as an audience, but as a community,” Gemmill said.

This was the show's second win of the night, the first going to actor Noah Wyle for his role as Dr. Robby.

'The White Lotus' is leaving the trip empty-handed

"The White Lotus" went into the tonight with a leading six nominations for its third season.

Filho said it is "a very important moment in time to be making films — here in the U.S., [and] in Brazil."

"The Secret Agent" is set in the 1970s, when Brazil was under a dictatorial regime, and stars Wagner Moura as a scientific researcher forced to go on the run after he offends a government-aligned businessman.

'KPop Demon Hunters' director wanted to depict women who were 'strong and bold

“KPop Demon Hunters” director Maggie Kang thanked “everyone who believed that a movie so deeply rooted in Korean culture could resonate with a global audience.”

“Through this film, we really wanted to depict female characters the way that we know women, which is really strong and bold, really silly and weird and really hungry for food and sometimes a little thirsty,” Kang said.

This is the animated film’s second win of the night, positioning it well for this year’s Grammy and Academy awards.

Her co-director, Chris Appelhans, added that the film is a “love letter to music, to the power it has to connect us, to make us see some kind of shared humanity, which we could use in the world these days.”

Glaser shares the most-searched phrase about the Globes

"Isn't it spelled 'Hamlet'?"

Apparently a lot of people are confused that the movie is actually called "Hamnet" and it is not a remake of a Shakespeare play.

Analysis: Everyone seems to be shying away from politics

In the first Trump administration, Hollywood award shows were filled with political commentary, either in the form of the host's monologue jokes or earnest speeches. But tonight, the vibe is different.

Nikki Glaser made a brief mention of the Jeffrey Epstein files in her opening stand-up set, but otherwise she hasn't (so far) weighed in on national or international headlines. The same could be said of the presenters and winners.

Notably, stand-up comedian and actor Wanda Sydes is wearing a pin honoring Renee Good, the woman killed last week by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.

Glaser mashes up 'KPop Demon Hunters' and 'Marty Supreme'

Glaser belted out a song set to the tune of “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters” with lyrics inspired by “Marty Supreme,” a movie about a table tennis champion.

But after a few seconds, “Marty Supreme” co-star Fran Drescher took the stage and told Glaser to cut it out. “You have to stop singing,” Drescher said. “Your voice is so annoying.”

Last year, Glaser did a similar musical number, briefly singing a song called “Pope-ular” that blended nominees “Conclave” and “Wicked.”

Kim Eun-jae says she 'worked tirelessly' to be a 'K-pop idol'

As “KPop Demon Hunters” dominated both the TV and music streaming charts last year, “Golden” became the first K-pop song by a female vocalist to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“I worked tirelessly for years to fill one dream to be a K-pop idol. I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough, so I leaned on songs and music to get through it. Now I’m here as a singer and songwriter,” Kim Eun-jae, who is known professionally as Ejae, said in her acceptance speech alongside Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami.

She added that it’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys and everyone of all ages to get through their hardship and accept themselves.”

Amy Poehler wins in first-ever Globes podcast category

The first Golden Globe for podcasting went to the most traditional Hollywood star out of the nominees.

“I just want to say that I know I am new to this game. I have great respect for this form. I have great respect for all the people that I have nominated with; I’m big fans of all of you,” Amy Poehler said in her acceptance speech for “Good Hang.” “Except for NPR. Just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. So, try harder.”

It’s the category’s inaugural year and the first time a longtime Hollywood awards show has chosen to honor the popular medium. Notably, many of the biggest right-leaning podcasts didn’t make it onto the nominees list.

Stellan Skarsgård pays homage to the theatrical experience

Skarsgård, accepting the best supporting actor trophy for "Sentimental Value," exhorted viewers to see films in brick-and-mortar movie theaters, which he described as an "extinguished species."

He called on moviegoers to "share the pulse" with others inside a theater, calling that experience "magic."

"Cinema should be seen in cinemas," Skarsgård said in closing, drawing applause from the crowd.

It was a pointed statement in part because Netflix, one of the dominant forces in modern entertainment, typically doesn't put movies in traditional theaters for significant periods of time.

It's buzzing inside the ballroom

Before the show began, I was pressed up against a potted olive tree as everyone entered the ballroom at once: George and Amal came down the stairs, Steven Spielberg glided through with Chloe Zhao, Mark Ruffalo chatted it up with Jean Smart, and Ariana Grande took her seat.

Stellan Skarsgård is a wife guy

Accepting his award, Stellan Skarsgård said he wasn’t prepared for this because he thought he was “too old.” He went on to express appreciation for his wife.

“I’m not going to spend the next six minutes to thank everybody in the credits of the film. They know I love them," he said onstage. "I gotta thank my wife, Meagan Ann Everette Skarsgård.”

He also gave a shoutout to his children (without naming them), who helped him prep for his role as a "bad father."

Who made the Golden Globes ceremony playlist?

The music between presenting and announcing winners must have been curated by a millennial (complimentary).

That means we saw Stellan Skarsgård walk up to accept his win as Usher's "Yeah" played. That's art.

Analysis: Nikki Glaser delivers bold opening monologue

The atmosphere stayed lighthearted in the room as Nikki Glaser wrapped up an opening monologue filled with wisecracks that drew laughter and applause from her celeb targets without seeming to draw offense.

“I’m making jokes up here, but it is an absolute privilege to be in this room with you all. Yes, I’m your host, but I’m honestly such a massive fan,” Glaser said onstage. “Your work this year was innovative, it felt fearless, inspiring, and in some cases, downright Zootopian.”

The second-time host didn’t shy away from bold jabs tonight, poking fun at everything from the Warner Bros. bidding war to CBS — the very network she’s on — to the Justice Department.

Tonight’s well-received monologue follows the praise she received for her quips last year, when she made history for becoming the Globes’ first solo woman host.

Dr. Robby is clocked in for his shift at the Golden Globes

Noah Wyle, better known as Dr. Robby from the nominated TV hit "The Pitt," is having a busy week.

Season Two of the show dropped Thursday, and at the season's premier, it was announced that the show would be returning for Season Three. Oh, and he won a Critic's Choice Award for his role in the show last weekend.

He told Variety that the crew behind the hit HBO Max show is still shooting Season Three and that he has to be on set first thing tomorrow morning.

Fans of “The Pitt” are hopeful Wyle, who won his first Emmy last year for the role, will receive another statuette for his excellent job saving (fictional) lives. Still, it’s a tough category, as Wyle will face another top contender: “Severance” star Adam Scott.

Chatting with E! on the carpet, Wyle said that he’s “very proud” of this season and that he’s “overjoyed” that HBO picked up the series for a third season.

Wyle also talked about meeting up with his "ER" co-star George Clooney last night, saying: "It’s always wonderful to see him. It’s like the years just fall away every time we do."

"Neither of us can believe we're still getting away with doing what we love to do," he added.

Wanda Sykes wears 'Be Good' pin to honor Minnesota mother who was killed by ICE officer

Wanda Sykes is using her accessories to get political on the Globes red carpet, telling Variety she is wearing a "Be Good" pin "for the mother who was murdered by an ICE agent" last week.

"It's really sad," Sykes said. "We need to speak up ... and shut this rogue government down because it's just awful what they're doing to people."

"Good" refers to Renee Good, a Minneapolis mom who was fatally shot by an ICE officer last week as Immigration and Customs Enforcement surges on the Midwestern city.

Protests against her death have broken out across the country and have continued through the weekend with many against the deployment of ICE agents in their cities.

This year's new Globes addition: Podcasters

This year, the Golden Globes received some scrutiny after unveiling a new podcasting category and putting several political podcasts from more conservative hosts on its shortlist of contenders.

But last month, none of the political podcasts — including Apple's No. 1 podcast in America, “The Joe Rogan Experience” — made the cut. It was a notable omission partly because Rogan’s show helped turn podcasting into a certifiable cultural phenomenon.

The six slots instead went to “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” “Call Her Daddy,” “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” “SmartLess” and “Up First.”

That means you can expect to see the likes of NPR talent (who are behind "Up First") alongside hosts like "Call Her Daddy" lead Alex Cooper.

How toxic masculinity online inspired Globes nominee ‘Adolescence’

The series, which rose to the top of Netflix’s most-watched shows list in March, follows the fallout after a teenage boy is arrested for murdering his female classmate.

The story centers on Jamie (played by Owen Cooper), whose murder of his classmate Katie sends shock waves through their English suburb. Each episode is shot in one continuous take and focuses on a different aspect of the fallout.

“What we set out to do was not tell a whodunnit, but a whydunnit,” co-writer and co-creator Jack Thorne previously told NBC News. “We wanted to get inside Jamie, and we wanted to present this complicated portrait. And by establishing his guilt at the end of Episode 1, that gave us longer to do that.”

Cooper, who is 15, had no acting experience before the show. Now, he’s among the stars receiving the most buzz during awards season. He made history last year, becoming both the youngest person to be nominated for an Emmy for supporting actor in a limited series and the youngest male actor to ever receive an Emmy

Twenty-seven performers are first-time nominees

From industry veterans like Bill Maher to relative newcomers, including Aimee Lou Wood of “The White Lotus” and Chase Infiniti of “One Battle After Another,” 27 performers received their first Golden Globe nominations this year.

The first-timers were celebrated during a Globes-hosted luncheon last month, which 11 stars attended, the Golden Globes wrote in a blog post.

“It’s really a remarkable milestone in all of your journeys, and we couldn’t be happier for you," Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne said in opening remarks. "The work resonated with 400 voters from 95 different countries and regions, which just speaks for how you resonated with so many voters from all over the world, and how incredible your work is.”

Why ‘Sinners' is a personal endeavor for director Ryan Coogler

A vampire film set in 1930s Mississippi may seem out of left field for director Ryan Coogler. But his personal ties to the story and explorations of race and belonging are consistent with his four other feature films, “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” and the record-breaking “Black Panther” and its sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

“Sinners,” Coogler told NBC News, is a tribute to his Uncle James, who “was the oldest male member of my family from Mississippi.”

“He meant a lot to me,” Coogler said. “He passed away right after I was in post-production on ‘Creed,’ and all he would do is play blues records.”

Jordan is nominated for best performance by an actor in a motion picture (drama) for his roles as twins Smoke and Stack, who left the Mississippi Delta to fight in World War I and later settled in Chicago, where they were rumored to work with the infamous Al Capone.

How Jafar Panahi secretly shot ‘It Was Just an Accident’ in Iran

Iranian director Jafar Panahi puts a lot on the line for his work. Authorities could again arrest him for speaking out against the country’s hard-line regime. They could send him back to the notoriously cruel Evin Prison in Tehran, which houses many of Iran’s political dissidents. He could again be placed on house arrest and barred from making films.

And in December, just as the U.S. press tour for Panahi's Golden Globe-nominated film "It Was Just an Accident" had wrapped up, Iran sentenced Panahi to prison. The country also again banned him from traveling, citing “propaganda activities."

For much of his career, Panahi, now 65, has largely ignored these attempts at silencing him, instead focusing on doing what he loves most: making films about his homeland.

“You have to find a way around the system,” Panahi said in an interview with NBC News conducted in Farsi at a hotel in Santa Monica, California, and translated into English last fall.

The dissident filmmaker recently said that he plans to return to Iran after the Oscars, even though he faces jail time and another ban.

Analysis: Globes airing on CBS at a pivotal time for the Tiffany Network

The Golden Globes are set to be telecast on CBS, the venerable broadcast network that has lately found itself in the national spotlight thanks in part to a high-profile merger.

Last year, Skydance Media acquired CBS' parent company, Paramount, in a blockbuster deal valued at $8 billion. Skydance's owner, David Ellison, then undertook sweeping changes at the combined media entity, including a wave of layoffs and new leadership at CBS News.

The merger came after Paramount paid $16 million to settle a lawsuit from President Donald Trump, who had accused CBS News of deceptively editing a "60 Minutes" interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. (CBS denied that accusation.)

Paramount also made headlines after it canceled the late-night talk show hosted by Stephen Colbert, a vocal critic of both the Trump administration and CBS' settlement with the president. CBS insisted the decision not to renew Colbert's show was "purely a financial decision."

Ellison is not done remaking Hollywood. Paramount is battling with Netflix for ownership of the fabled studio Warner Bros.; Paramount's bid is backed in part by Ellison's father, the Silicon Valley billionaire and Trump ally Larry Ellison.

All of these larger corporate and political flashpoints loom in the background of tonight's ceremony — and they could provide fodder for emcee Nikki Glaser's opening monologue.

Diego Luna is nominated for his role in 'Andor.' Here's why the show resonated with fans.

The Disney+ show’s second season received high praise from critics and viewers, many of whom commented on the plot’s relevance to current events.

It focuses on a time when many in the galaxy live in fear of the fascistic Empire. It centers on thief-turned-rebel spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), whom fans first meet in the 2016 feature film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

“Andor” creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy told Rotten Tomatoes in an interview last year that he studied revolutions throughout history in writing the series.

‘Wicked: For Good’ leans into political themes with Cynthia Erivo song

In "Wicked: For Good," the second part of the film adaptation of the musical, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), an unfairly villainized figure in the mythical land of Oz, is seen trying to save her kingdom from a descent into authoritarianism.

In a new song by composer Stephen Schwartz called “There’s No Place Like Home,” Erivo sings of her beloved homeland, “Why do I love this place that’s never loved me?” Schwartz wrote the song during the Covid-19 pandemic, when he and playwright Winnie Holzman were working to adapt their long-running 2003 stage musical into a two-film structure.

“No matter where you lie on a political or ideological spectrum, it must be obvious that the America we live in today is quite a different country than 10 years ago,” Schwartz said in a Zoom interview with NBC News after the film’s record-breaking opening weekend. “And so if you feel that something is being lost, the question then becomes, ‘Well, what do you do about that?’”

Netflix and Paramount’s battle for Warner Bros. Discovery looms over Hollywood

Warner Bros. Discovery's film “One Battle After Another” and TV show “The White Lotus” collected the most Golden Globe nominations in their categories. Another of its movies, “Sinners,” also fared well, earning seven nominations.

But the studio did not have much time to celebrate the accolades. Just as actors Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall were calling the names of Golden Globe nominees at a news conference at the Beverly Hilton in December, Paramount launched a hostile takeover bid for WBD valued at more than $108 billion.

WBD’s board and shareholders are weighing competing offers for the studio from Netflix and Paramount. Meanwhile, voters in Hollywood are continuing their deliberations as award season kicks off. Many of the seven Hollywood insiders NBC News spoke with — including producers, marketers and former studio executives — said the looming media merger will shape votes for upcoming awards shows, including the Directors Guild Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the coveted Academy Awards.

Apple TV’s “Pluribus,” Netflix’s “Beast in Me” and Peacock’s “All Her Fault” were among the shows that received recognition in the TV categories. All three were released in November, thus giving them just one month to pick up buzz from audiences before nominations were announced.

“Pluribus,” from “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan, snagged a nod in the best TV series (drama) category. Star Rhea Seehorn, who co-starred in Gilligan’s “Better Call Saul,” received her first nomination for best performance by a female actor in a TV series (drama) for her role as Carol in “Pluribus.” Last weekend, Seehorn took home the Critics’ Choice Award for best actress in a drama series for her role in the show as Carol, a cynical writer tasked with saving humanity.

“Beast in Me” picked up three nominations: best TV limited series/anthology series/motion picture made for TV; best performance by a female actor in a limited series/anthology series/motion picture made for TV (for lead Claire Danes); and best performance by a male actor in a limited series/anthology series/motion picture made for TV (for co-lead Matthew Rhys).

“All Her Fault” also earned a nod in the best TV limited series/anthology series/motion picture made for TV category. Its lead, “Succession” star Sarah Snook will be up against Danes and four others in the best performance by a female actor in a limited series/anthology series/motion picture made for TV category. Snook, who plays a mother searching for her missing son in the series, also took home a Critics’ Choice Award for the role earlier this month.

Analysis: Why does Hollywood still care about the Globes?

As with most awards shows these days, the viewing audience for the Golden Globes is a fraction of what it once was. Last year, 9.3 million people tuned in to watch host Nikki Glaser gently roast stars like Timothée Chalamet and Nicole Kidman on CBS, according to Nielsen, less than half the 20 million or so who watched in the 2010s. And the Globes has never been terribly predictive of the Oscars.

Add to that years of scandal and controversy, including a series of 2021 L.A. Times stories alleging ethical lapses and diversity failures, followed by more recent kerfuffles about a new podcasting category, and it sort of begs the question: Why does Hollywood still show up for this show?

The reason for the Globes’ remarkable endurance as an A-lister pit stop is the show’s timing, tone and ability to attract attention, even in our highly distracted age. When grabbing eyeballs is harder than ever, an actor’s red carpet moment or charming acceptance speech at the Golden Globes can still help a movie or show find its audience. Nine-point-three million people ain’t nothin’, after all, and the halo effect from news and social media coverage continues for days.

“The Globes matter,” said Tony Angelotti, a film awards strategist who this year is working on campaigns for “Wicked: For Good” and “Zootopia 2.” “Especially as it becomes more and more competitive to promote projects to an increasingly fractured audience.”

'Heated Rivalry' duo set to present

“Heated Rivalry,” the steamy Canadian hockey show from Crave, isn’t nominated for anything tonight. The adaptation of the popular romance book wasn't eligible because it debuted in December on HBO.

But since everyone online has hockey fever now, the show's leading duo, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, will be at the Globes to present.

Lucky us.

The acting duo have charmed all of Hollywood in the lead-up to the awards show, with many celebrities stopping to snap pictures with them at various Globes-related parties and events.

Golden Eve ceremony honors Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Mirren

Two of Hollywood's leading ladies were honored by the Golden Globes ahead of Sunday's awards ceremony. The televised event, called Golden Eve, celebrated the work of actors Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The stars were awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Carol Burnett Award, respectively, making it the first time the Globes had presented these awards together in a televised event.

In her speech, Parker said she first knew years ago she wanted to be an actor after “sitting in the audience” at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

"I had this desire to audition," she said during her speech. "To work hard, to care, to worry about the work, to be nervous, to fail, to be fearless and committed like Carol Burnett, to succeed, to have made friends, to be in another fitting, to fall in love with crews, to weep when saying goodbye to them all, to be challenged and to hear the word ‘action.’ I wish this for all young actors."

Actors Ted Danson, Kristin Davis (Parker’s “Sex and the City” co-star), Colman Domingo and Matthew Broderick (Parker’s husband) all appeared onstage at various times to praise Parker and her body of work.

Next up was Mirren, whose husband, Taylor Hackford, was also on hand to give remarks about her storied career. Actors Tessa Thompson, Viola Davis (last year's recipient) and Harrison Ford (Mirren’s “1923” co-star) also spoke.

"I prefer to think of this as an ongoing reflection of my career, rather than a eulogy," Mirren smiled. "I’m not writing my own eulogy. Although I have to say, if this were my memorial, looking out at this audience, I’m absolutely thrilled who showed up for me, and I am making a list of the no-shows."

She wrapped up her speech by joking she's going to go "have a cocktail now."

Creators have become an integral part of film, television and music marketing. Brands and studios regularly enlist them to interview celebrities and artists for social media content. They can be paid thousands of dollars by studios to help promote projects, according to Business Insider. But in recent years, some viral exchanges between a handful of influencers and A-list stars have generated scrutiny over why creators are getting tapped for major entertainment events.

‘Marty Supreme’ orange is everywhere

“Marty Supreme” represents A24’s biggest production budget to date, at about $60 million. The marketing is an additional cost, which A24 has not disclosed, though it is widely believed to be less expensive than a traditional campaign because of its reliance more on unconventional stunts than on costly TV and outdoor ads.

A24 has dropped limited-edition merchandise, like a highly coveted $250 windbreaker, put its star on the cover of a Wheaties box and orchestrated a surprise premiere at the New York Film Festival. With an Instagram post from the film's star Timothée Chalamet, they alerted fans to a “Marty Supreme” streetwear pop-up in East Hollywood, generating crowds so big the LAPD was called.

Chalamet and the film’s director, Josh Safdie, traveled to a fan event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they danced to Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” and handed out orange table-tennis balls. The movie’s maximum-effort promotional campaign even poked fun at itself in an 18-minute mock Zoom meeting between Chalamet and a marketing team in which he proposed painting the Statue of Liberty orange.

The strategy has been both weirder and more original than simply dropping a movie trailer and buying TV ads and billboards, a technique that used to be known as “spray and pray.”

Chalamet has been sporting orange at various promotional events, including premieres and screenings of the film. Let's see if he sports the color again tonight.

These three stars are double nominees this year

Amanda Seyfried, Jacob Elordi and Jeremy Allen White are all double nominees, scoring nods for their acting in both film and television categories.

Seyfried, who has spent the last month promoting her Lionsgate film "The Housemaid," took home a Golden Globe for best limited series actress in 2023 for her role as Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu's "The Dropout." This year, she's nominated in the best actress (film comedy/musical) category for her role in "The Testament of Ann Lee," in which she plays the 18th-century English religious leader and founder of the Shaker movement. She's also nominated in the best actress (TV limited/movie) category for her role as a police officer combating the opioid crisis in Peacock's "Long Bright River." (NBC News and Peacock share Comcast as a parent company.)

Elordi, who is among this year's first-time nominees, is a contender in the best actor in a supporting role (motion picture) category for his role as the monster in Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein." The "Euphoria" star is also nominated in the best male actor (limited series/anthology series/motion picture made for television) category for his portrayal of a medical student-turned-prisoner of war in "The Narrow Road to the Deep North."

White, a favorite among awards voters, is once again nominated in the best actor (TV series, musical/comedy) category for his role as Chef Carmy in "The Bear." His portrayal as artist Bruce Springsteen in "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere" also garnered him a nod in the best actor in a motion picture (drama) category.

But winning multiple Globes in one night for separate roles is rare. Just Helen Mirren, who in 2007 won for “The Queen” and “Elizabeth I,” and Joan Plowright, who in 1993 won for “Enchanted April” and “Stalin,” have managed to accomplish that feat.

Predictions: Don't bet against 'One Battle' or 'The Pitt'

Paul Thomas Anderson’s "One Battle After Another," a seriocomic portrait of faded political revolutionaries, looks like a lock for best comedy/musical film, especially after winning the top prize at the recent Critics' Choice Awards. It’s the most nominated movie heading into the show.

The outcome of the drama film race is a far less certain. "Sinners," a critical and commercial smash directed by Ryan Coogler ("Black Panther") and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers who face off against vampires, arguably goes into the night with the greatest momentum.

In the television categories, HBO’s "The Pitt" is likely to repeat its triumphant performance at last year’s Emmys, where it nabbed the drama series trophy. The fight for the comedy series seems like a two-way race between a pair of recent Emmy winners: Apple TV+'s "The Studio" and HBO Max's "Hacks."

Party report: Spotify, THR partner up to celebrate podcast nominees

LOS ANGELES — Spotify and The Hollywood Reporter's Golden Globes party on Thursday was designed to honor podcasters, in honor of the awards show creating a new category around the medium.

Nominees in the best podcast category, including Amy Poehler, were among the list of attendees, which featured an eclectic mix of actors, creators, influencers, hosts, reality stars, musicians and producers. Each recognized show had a themed cocktail or appetizer named after them (this reporter indulged in one “Mel’s Reset Spritz,” inspired by podcaster Mel Robbins).

But the evening, which took place on soundstages at The Lot at Formosa in West Hollywood, seemingly belonged to François Arnaud and Robbie G.K., breakout stars from HBO Max's hit hockey romance "Heated Rivalry." The duo, who play Scott Hunter and Kip on the show, were ogled by onlookers. Several celebrities even stopped to say hi to them.

Also in attendance: Creators like Rhett & Link, YouTuber Dhar Mann and comedian/Trump impersonator Matt Friend; actors Kumail Nanjiani and Nina Dobrev; talk show host Bill Maher; reality star Chrishell Stause; and Olympian Ilona Maher.

One of the most fun parts about attending such lavish functions is realizing that people in Los Angeles have very different definitions of “cocktail attire,” especially when it’s below 60 degrees. But inside the tented venue, attendees warmed up with bites from Pink’s Hot Dogs, Trejo’s Tacos and Rokusho sushi, as well as an epic candy station.

Many A-listers, including “Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Brunson and co-star Janelle James, danced the night away in front of the stage, where “Sinners” breakout star Miles Caton kicked off the evening of performances with “I Lied to You.” Grammy legends Chaka Khan and John Legend also serenaded the crowd, and producer Mark Ronson ended the night with a DJ set.

Nikki Glaser is back for Golden Globes 'hosting sequel'

Comedian Nikki Glaser is taking on hosting duties again after receiving widespread praise last year.

The Emmy-, Globe- and Grammy-nominated performer was complimented by fans for her roasting skills and quippy jokes throughout the night.

“I gotta say, this feels like I finally made it,” Glaser said during her 2025 monologue. “You know, I’m in a room full of producers at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and this time, all of my clothes are on, so it was worth it.”

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have hosted the show together several times, and Sandra Oh previously split hosting duties with Andy Samberg in 2019. But Glaser remains the first woman to host the event solo.

In a post on Instagram ahead of this year's show, Glaser wrote, "I'm back for my hosting sequel." She described it as "The Golden Globes: For Good," a joke referring to "Wicked: For Good," the second part to Universal Pictures' musical adaptation that was released in November 2025.
