It seems the South isn’t in the clear after a damp Memorial Day weekend.

Around 15 million people are under flood alerts from Louisiana to Georgia on Tuesday as the region braces for more heavy rains and thunderstorms that could bring up to 2 inches of rain to some areas.

Excessive rain is also forecast to affect an area stretching from the Carolinas to western Texas. Large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes are also possible for parts of southwest Texas, including Midland and Fort Stockton.

Pictures and videos over Memorial Day weekend showed a flooded driveway in Mississippi and cars stranded in multiple inches of rain across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

A flood watch is in place Tuesday for New Orleans until 7 p.m. local time. Showers and storms will last through the evening, with up to an inch of rain expected, and some areas could get up to 2 inches.

Atlanta is also under a flood watch until 11 p.m. local time Tuesday, with 0.75 inches to 1.25 inches likely and up to 2 inches possible in isolated areas.

Both New Orleans and Atlanta could get hit with hourly rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches, so even areas not under a flood watch could face flash flooding Tuesday.

There’s more precipitation expected in the region throughout the week, with rainfall amounts to be determined.
