“This is an athlete base that dreams of gold,” Wroblewski told reporters.
“I know my place in this whole thing is to be in service mode as much as I possibly can. That’s to find out as much about our opponent as I can and melt it down so the players can go out and win the medal they deserve.
“I’m thinking about them. That’s what gets me going. I get chills thinking about helping them.”

Curling champions Sweden are all but out of medal contention
Olympic men’s curling champions Sweden suffered a crushing blow today, with their title defense on the brink of ending after a 7-3 defeat to Germany.
The Niklas Edin-led Swedish rink has just one win in six games at the Winter Olympics and will fail to qualify for the semifinals, barring an extraordinary set of circumstances.
“We haven’t played terrible, it’s just too many half shots and a few guesses that are not good enough and a few calls that maybe are not the best calls and a few wrong sides of the inches and all that combined just created too many losses,” Edin said.

To this point in the tournament, the U.S. is outscoring its opponents 31-1 overall and has scored at least five goals in every contest.

USA takes 2-0 lead on Sweden in semifinals
The U.S. women’s hockey team just took a 2-0 lead with 10:51 remaining in the second period. Abbey Murphy had a great pass up the boards to Hannah Bilka, who then drove towards the goal alone. At the last second, she dumped it back to a streaking Taylor Heise for a one-timer into the net.
It was Heise’s second goal of the tournament.
Sweden's goalie Ebba Svensson Träff will want that one back. To the naked eye, it looked like Heise beat Traff’s blocker side. But actually, the Swedish goaltender had that puck in her glove, but it somehow popped out, crossed her body and slipped in, past her short side.

Maxim Naumov says skating community has Ilia Malinin’s back
American figure skater Maxim Naumov wants fellow Team USA competitor Ilia Malinin to know that the whole skating community is behind him after his devastating eighth-place finish in the men’s singles event.
“We’ve got his back no matter what,” Naumov told "TODAY."
Naumov said today that he saw Malinin in the Olympic Village after the competition, where the gold medal favorite fell multiple times during his routine.
“I really just want him to know that we love him, and we care about him,” Naumov said. “His performance and what he did on the ice that day in the free program, it doesn’t define him. In those moments, it’s how you respond, and knowing him, I know that he’s going to be OK.”
Naumov is no stranger to this resilient mentality. The figure skater made it to the Milan Cortina Games after losing both his parents in a plane crash last year. He pushed himself to qualify for the competition by remembering their Olympic dreams for him, and he dedicated his performance in the men’s singles competition to them.

Sweden has arguably the toughest path to men’s hockey gold at the Olympics
After realizing his team would have to play in the qualification round at the Olympics, Sweden's coach Sam Hallam was quick to reference what Canada did 16 years ago after a rough start on home ice in Vancouver.
Canada also had to play the extra game and went on to win it all on Sidney Crosby’s golden goal in overtime in the final against the U.S. If the Swedes do the same this time, they will have very much earned every cart of their gold medals.
Sweden, as the seventh seed, has an incredibly difficult path through the men’s hockey tournament, starting in the qualification playoffs tomorrow against 10th-seeded Latvia. The winner of that game faces the unbeaten U.S. in the quarterfinals Wednesday night.
Sweden only dropped out of the No. 3 spot because it allowed a last-minute goal to Slovakia that changed who won the group based on a tiebreaker. That 5-3 victory Saturday was arguably the best Sweden has played thus far in Milan, from goaltender Jacob Markstrom out.

U.S. figure skater Ilia Malinin comments on 'invisible battles'
U.S. figure skating sensation Ilia Malinin has shared a statement on his Instagram page this morning talking about mental health and online hatred after a disastrous free skate last week left him without a medal despite being the favorite to win gold.
"On the world’s biggest stage, those who appear the strongest may still be fighting invisible battles on the inside," Malinin, also known as “Quad God” for his ability to land multiple difficult quadruple jumps, wrote.

"Even your happiest memories can end up tainted by the noise. Vile online hatred attacks the mind and fear lures it into the darkness, no matter how hard you try to stay sane through the endless insurmountable pressure. It all builds up as these moments flash before your eyes, resulting in an inevitable crash. This is that version of the story. Coming February 21, 2026."
It's not clear what will happen Saturday, but medal-winning figure skaters across all disciplines will be performing in the exhibition gala on that day. Malinin finished eighth overall and would normally not be invited to perform, but he could join the gala for a special performance.

Two-time 2026 Winter Olympic medalist Switzerland's Loic Meillard continued his blistering skiing, finishing a little over half a second behind McGrath (+0.59).
Austria’s Fabio Gstrein, who cracked the top 10 twice during the 2025-26 World Cup season, placed 3rd (+0.94).

Kristen Santos-Griswold eliminated from medal contention
The only American skating today in the women’s 1,000-meter short track speed skating event won’t make it to the semifinal, as Kristen Santos-Griswold finished third in her quarterfinal heat.
Her time wasn’t good enough to grab one of the spots given to the two best third-place finishers.

‘Nascar on ice’ is underway
The women’s 1,000-meter short track speed skating tournament is underway, with the first quarterfinal race just wrapping and the final to come later today. If you’re only waking up, don‘t worry about your morning coffee — these races should provide enough of a jolt.
Team USA veterans go for gold in women’s monobob bobsleigh
It was a strong display yesterday for Team USA’s contingent in the women’s monobob, with two Olympic veterans leading the charge in second and third positions heading into today’s third and fourth runs at 1 p.m. ET.
Kallie Humphries, currently third on the leaderboard, is the defending gold medalist in this event, having won in Beijing four years ago. A three-time Olympic gold medalist, Humphries returns to the Olympics at 40 years old and now, as a mother, having gone through IVF since the last Games.
“Sport and IVF process, they mimic each other,” Humphries told NBC’s ‘My New Favorite Olympian’ podcast ahead of the Games. “The tools you need to get through one are the exact tools you need to become and get through an Olympics and be the best in the other. You’re chasing a dream that you don’t know will ever come true. And it’s this feeling of control and lack of control at the same time.”
Elana Meyers Taylor, a year older than Humphries at 41, sits just ahead in silver medal position. This is her fifth Winter Games, having won silver and bronze medals on each of her previous appearances, but gold has remained elusive.
“I still believe it’s possible,” Taylor told NBC News. “Nobody in their right mind would say, ‘Hey, a 41-year-old woman is going to have a shot at another Olympic medal in a speed and power sport... I want my children to know that people told their mom that it can’t happen and then she went for it anyways.”
Kaysha Love, meanwhile, sits not far behind in fifth heading into the final runs. She won gold in the monobob at last year’s world championships in Lake Placid and can’t be ruled out of contention despite an error-strewn second run.
