Vento lost his eyesight after being diagnosed with dystrophic epidermolusis bullosa, a rare illness where cells do not produce enough collagen. Clarification: In a previous version of this story, we stated that a Stanford doctor developed a drug for Antonio’s skin condition. That doctor oversaw a clinical trial in which Antonio participated for his skin condition.
