No Agreement Reached on Iran Nuclear Program, Officials Say

Iran and six world powers failed to reach a breakthrough in the latest round of talks negotiating the country’s nuclear program, a senior U.S. administration official said Friday. "We do not have an understanding on all major issues, we have some understanding of issues that are helpful to move this process forward," the senior official said. “Everyone here has to make difficult decisions and we continue to look to Iran to make some of the ones necessary for getting to a comprehensive agreement."

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani had described the progress in recent days as “extremely slow” at a press conference in New York on Friday, with the countries just eight weeks away from a Nov. 24 deadline. "We must look forward to the future and make the courageous decisions vis-a-vis this problem," Rouhani said, adding that any deal without lifting all sanctions against Tehran was "unacceptable." The current round of talks was held alongside the U.N. General Assembly, where Rouhani said Iran and the U.S. could repair tensions if their leaders could learn to trust one another.
