Bad-boy pop star Justin Bieber pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of vandalism for allegedly throwing eggs at a neighbor's California home in January, prosecutors announced Wednesday. The "Baby" hitmaker did not appear at an afternoon arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court. The victim claimed the egg attack caused $20,000 worth of property damage, but prosecutors did not bring felony charges.
Under the terms of the negotiated settlement, Bieber was ordered to complete five days of community service and enroll in an anger management program, prosecutors said. He also was ordered to pay $80,900 in restitution and to stay away from the victim and his family for two years. He will be on formal probation during that time.
In a statement, Bieber's rep said, "Justin is glad to get this matter resolved and behind him. He will continue to move forward focusing on his career and his music."
The case caps a run of bad publicity and legal problems for Bieber, who recently apologized for using a racial slur in a joke that was captured on video when he was 15 years old but did not surface until this year.
