Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was released from the hospital Tuesday night after battling a severe urinary tract infection, a family spokesman said Wednesday. Doctors at an undisclosed hospital had been observing and testing Ali, who also suffers from Parkinson's disease, since he was first admitted almost three weeks ago. Initially, doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia, but it was discovered to be a bladder infection.

"The Ali family greatly appreciates the outpouring of support and continued well wishes," spokesman Bob Gunnell said in a statement. "They also want to thank the team of doctors and nurses for their exceptional care." The former world heavyweight champ will turn 73 on Jan. 17.
