Just two stops into a 13-city tour, singer-songwriter Todd Snider cancelled the rest of the shows after he was both the victim of a "violent assault" and was himself arrested at a Utah hospital, officials said Tuesday.

The Americana musician pulled the plug on his "High Lonesome and Then Some Tour" after he "sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel" in Salt Lake City, according to a statement by his team.

Salt Lake City police confirmed that they're investigating "an alleged assault of a 59-year-old male at the Commonwealth Room" on Saturday, where Snider was set to perform.

Snider was then treated at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City and discharged, allegedly against his will, on Sunday, officials said.

The performer had initially left the hospital, but came back to air grievances, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, trespassing and making a violent threat.

“He returned to the hospital and made threats that he was going to assault members of the staff," Salt Lake City police Detective Michael Ruff told NBC News on Tuesday. “By this this point he had been treated and released.”

A representative for Snider could not be immediately reached for comment on Tuesday.

It was unclear when Snider would be able to play again.

"We deeply apologize for the cancellation and any inconvenience it causes," the performer's team said. "We appreciate your understanding as Todd receives needed medical treatment."

Snider's tour started on Thursday in Englewood, Colorado, before coming to Utah for a gig schedule for Saturday,

He had been set to perform in Phoenix on Monday and West Hollywood, California, on Tuesday before stops later this month that included San Francisco, Seattle and Portland.
