Still waiting for that drone delivery package? Move over, Amazon, Netflix has got you beat — at least when it comes to humor.
The Internet video streaming company, which started out as a DVD-by-mail rental service, is poking fun at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ declaration that tiny flying robots could be delivering small packages to your home as soon as 2015.
In a tongue-in-cheek video posted to YouTube, Netflix demonstrates its latest “groundbreaking” technological advancement: a same-day, DVD home-delivery service jokingly labeled Drone2Home.
“That’s right, our fleet of high-tech drones will deliver your disc to you within mere seconds of you adding it to your queue,” Hank Breeggemann, general manager of Netflix's DVD division, says chirpily on the video, which features tiny copters dropping off DVDs in the company's trademark red envelopes to customers in an assortment of locations — including to a man using a urinal.
And for all you binge-watchers, Breeggemann is quick to add:
“Unlike other companies that are trying to rush unproven technology to market we have literally spent days working out most of the bugs.”
No word yet of a counter-offer from Amazon.
