A medical helicopter carrying three people crashed in a rural area of Oklahoma late Thursday, killing a pilot, the transport company said. A nurse and a paramedic survived the crash.
The Airbus AS350 went down about 11:30 p.m. local time (12:30 a.m. ET) near the city of Eufaula while flying from Tulsa to McAlester. The aircraft is registered to EagleMed LLC, a medical transport company. All of those aboard were employees of the company.
"First and foremost our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those involved and our entire EagleMed family. Nurse Kim Ramsey and Paramedic Ryan Setzkorn sustained non-life threatening injuries. Sadly, Pilot Matt Mathews perished," the company said in a statement, adding that it would be working closely with the NTSB to investigate the crash.
Mathews died at the scene, McIntosh County Emergency Management Director Wesley Dawson said.
This is the third fatal crash EagleMed has suffered in the past five years. In 2010, a pilot and nurse were killed, and in 2013, another pilot and nurse were killed.
