Mali Attack: Three Dead in Attack on U.N. Base in Kidal

LONDON — An attack on a United Nations base in northeastern Mali killed three people and wounded 12 others, officials said Sunday.

The United Nations Mission in Mali said that more than 30 rockets and shells were fired on its base in Kidal in a "complex attack." U.N. soldiers returned fire as soon as the origins of the firing were established, it added.

One U.N. soldier was killed and eight were wounded, the mission said. Two civilians also were killed and four were wounded, the mission added, condemning the "terrorist acts." It said it was treating the wounded and had reinforced security around Kidal.
