NBC News has signed on as the headline sponsor of the first New York City Drone Film Festival, an event celebrating the art of drone cinematography. Saturday’s festival at the Directors Guild of America Theater in New York will feature films 5 minutes or shorter that were shot using an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV. Randy Scott Slavin, a director, landscape photographer and aerial cinematographer who founded the festival, said he wanted to try to change the public's perception of drones. "I'm tired of drones being synonymous with questionable legality and FAA regulation. I want to celebrate the art of aerial cinematography," he said.

NBC News recently aired stunning footage, shot with a drone, of a frozen Niagara Falls.
