Heavily armed Kurdish peshmerga fighters were on their way by land and by air Wednesday to join militias defending the Syrian border town of Kobani from ISIS forces after setting off from Iraq. Kobani's Kurdish defenders have been eagerly waiting for the peshmerga since last week, when Turkey said it would allow them to traverse its territory to enter the town.
