Hundreds marched to the campus of St. Louis University early Monday and briefly staged a sit-in, part of a series of protests and rallies in the city marking two months since unarmed teenager Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer. Demonstrators chanted “out of the dorms into the streets” and staged a rally that included a four-minute silence and an address by the father of Vonderrit Myers Jr., an 18-year-old who was fatally shot by police on Wednesday night. Most of the crowd had dispersed by 3 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The overnight rally came ahead of what organizers of the “Ferguson October” protest described as “multiple acts of civil disobedience” planned for Monday. The plans included “peaceful direct actions across St. Louis County aimed to move officials to end their complicity and enact a justice agenda,” organizers said, without giving details.

A peaceful day or marches and rallies was held in St. Louis on Saturday, although protesters clashed with police at a QuikTrip gas station convenience store early Sunday, culminating in 17 arrests for unlawful assembly, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
