LONDON — The father of a British journalist being held hostage by ISIS released a video on Friday appealing to the militants "from all that is sacred" to release his son. John Cantlie, who was abducted in Syria in 2012, recently resurfaced in three videos released by the Islamist group in which he criticized Western policy toward Iraq and Syria. In the first video he acknowledged he was a prisoner of the group and that his life could be in danger.

"To those holding John, please know that he is a good man," his father, 81-year-old Paul Cantlie, said in a video recorded from a hospital bed. "He sought only to help the Syrian people, and I ask you from all that is sacred to help us and allow him to return home safely to those he loves and who love him."

His father said after seeing the propaganda videos the "family we experienced great relief seeing and hearing John and knowing that he is alive." He added: "This was followed by the feeling of despair and helplessness."
