Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter Wednesday to announce that the electric car manufacturer could be announcing what might be a new vehicle next week: "the D." Whether that's the Model D or simply the D is unclear. The company's mass-production cars are all the "Model" something so far, but Musk did not specify -- and it's not even clear that the "unveil" will involve a new vehicle. Almost no details could be extracted from the cryptic tweet except that the company will have an announcement on Oct. 9 along with "something else" Musk mentioned, about which even less is known.
Teslas have been getting cheaper: the Model S was a luxury sedan, the Model X will be an SUV, and the Model 3 (formerly the Model E) will be a mass-market model. Tesla declined to comment, saying only to "stay tuned" for the announcement next week. A later tweet Musk sent out did little to clear up the mystery.
