NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell visited officials from the National Domestic Violence Hotline Saturday at the organization's headquarters in Austin, Texas. Goodell said he's "just doing my work," and that he was invited to come to the Hotline.
The embattled commissioner has faced an onslaught of criticism stemming from acts of domestic violence committed by NFL players, and the resulting disciplinary actions given by the league, which many say were insufficient. In a memo released Friday to NFL team presidents and chief executives, Goodell said that he and NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith met for several hours to "continue discussing issues of personal conduct, including training, education, family services, and the disciplinary process.”
Earlier in the week, Goodell and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent met with a group of 11 former NFL players to discuss how to improve the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
