Three California wildfires torched more than 4,000 acres, destroyed or damaged more than 100 structures and forced the evacuations of more than 1,000 homes, fire officials said Monday. The latest fire, near the northern town of Weed in Siskiyou County, ignited Monday afternoon and had spread to 350 acres by Monday evening, state fire officials told NBC News. Authorities quickly ordered the evacuations of 1,000 homes Monday afternoon — on top of more than 130 others that had already been evacuated over the weekend elsewhere in the state.

Nearly two dozen more structures were damaged by the two other blazes. One, which sparked Sunday in Madera County, about 25 miles south of Yosemite National Park, was 20 percent contained late Monday afternoon, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. Farther north, the third fire grew by nearly 1,000 acres to 3,900 acres overnight roughly 60 miles east of Sacramento, Cal Fire said. It was 10 percent contained and had forced the evacuations of 133 homes. El Dorado County sheriff’s officials said residents of 406 more homes were being told to get ready to leave.
