The fifth tropical depression of the season — a storm that would be named Dolly if it strengthens to tropical storm level — was swirling around in the gulf Monday and heading toward possible landfall in Mexico sometime Wednesday morning.
At 8 p.m. ET, the storm was about 240 miles east of Tuxpan in Veracruz state, heading northwest at 12 mph. U.S. Air Force's hurricane hunters described it as having a well-defined cyclonic wind circulation Monday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center said. The Mexican government issued a tropical storm warning for its part of the Gulf Coast from Tuxpan north to La Pesca in Tamaulipas, but forecasters for The Weather Channel said the storm would have little time to strengthen significantly, saying the biggest threat it posed was heavy rain and some flooding.
