A British healthcare worker who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone was flown to Britain Sunday on a modified Royal Air Force Plane, according to the U.K. Department of Health. The first Briton to contract the disease “is not currently seriously unwell” the Department of Health said in a statement. The patient was expected t be transferred to an isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital in London upon arrival, the statement said.
Meanwhile, a WHO-deployed worker, also in Sierra Leone, was the first sent by the organization to contract the disease, WHO announced Sunday. The aid worker from Senegal tested positive for Ebola on Saturday night, Christy Feig, WHO’s director of communications, told NBC News. The worker may be evacuated to another care facility, “if necessary,” WHO said in a statement. WHO has sent nearly 400 people from the organization and partner organizations to Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone during the outbreak that is sweeping across West Africa.
