Several dozen protesters gathered and chanted Wednesday in front of a county courthouse near Ferguson, Missouri, where a grand jury was expected to begin hearing evidence in the police killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.
More than a dozen police officers formed a line to prevent the protesters from entering the courthouse in the city of Clayton, about nine miles from Ferguson. Police tape blocked the entrance. The protesters were peaceful. They yelled, “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” — a refrain from the 11 nights of demonstrations against the killing of Brown. Protesters have demanded that the officer, Darren Wilson, be prosecuted.
A protester supporting Wilson was escorted away by police when media and the protesters supporting the Brown family crowded around her.
