President Barack Obama began remarks at the U.S.-Africa summit on Wednesday by pledging international support for the the countries affected by the ebola outbreak.
“The United States and our international partners will continue to do whatever we can to help our African partners respond to this crisis and stand with the people of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone,” the president said.
“In their histories they have overcome great challenges, and they are drawing on that same spirit of strength and resilience today,” he added.
Two Americans helping to treat the outbreak in the western African countries contracted the disease and have been transported to a hospital in Georgia. Doctors say both have shown signs of improvement after taking an experimental drug.
