Apple is planning to reveal the iPhone 6 on Sept. 9, according to a report from Re/Code. Although the tech blog cites no sources for the date, the timing does fit with Apple's iPhone reveal timings over the last few years. The iPhone 5, as well as the 5S and 5C, were also announced in September. Previous media reports had the iPhone 6 event falling in October, but that may prove to be a separate launch — for the rumored iWatch, perhaps.
The new iPhone is said to be a major departure from the existing design, primarily in size: It reportedly comes in 4.7 and 5.5-inch versions (perhaps an "iPhone Pro") — both a major step up from the 4-inch screen of the 5S. And few iPhone users will have forgotten that only two years ago the screen was only 3.5 inches wide. The size bump and predicted lifestyle and fitness features seem aimed to keep the iPhone competitive with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy and HTC One M8, which in addition to being large sport a wide array of extra apps and services.
