Army investigators on Wednesday will question former Taliban captive Bowe Bergdahl about the circumstances of his 2009 disappearance in Afghanistan, his lawyer said. Eugene Fidell told NBC News that the interview will take place at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Fidell said he and Bergdahl will get together Tuesday to prepare.
Bergdahl, 23, was released in May after the Obama administration negotiated a controversial prisoner exchange with the Taliban in which the U.S. gave up five Guantanamo detainees. Fellow soldiers have accused him of abandoning his post in the hours before he was captured. Investigators are now examining whether to pursue desertion allegations. In the meantime, Bergdahl is back on active duty in a desk job.
