Thunderstorms, hail, lightning and floods walloped the East Coast from Maine to Florida overnight, as a blast of unusually chilly air pushed south and east. Suburbs of Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York City were worst hit, according to Kevin Roth, lead meteorologist at The Weather Channel. Downed trees, flooding and lightning were reported.
Flash floods turned highways and sidewalks into veritable ponds in the tri-state area, as storms dumped up to 3 inches of rain and tangled traffic in parts of New York and New Jersey. On New York's George Washington Bridge, commuters suffered delays of nearly 3 hours on the inbound side, according to NBC New Y1ork. In Connecticut, fierce flooding sent cars floating like boats. Hail, aggressive winds and flash flooding were also hit parts of the Rockies and nearby High Plains. Severe thunderstorms hit Cheyene, Wyoming, and Arizona was lashed by monsoon rains and heavy winds that flipped over an F-16. Meanwhile, wildfires continued to rage in Oregon while California continued to sizzle.
