The only legal marijuana shop in Seattle has already sold out of weed and won't get any more for as long as two weeks, its owner said as state officials reported Friday that the first week of legal pot sales had generated a tax windfall for the state of Washington.
Twenty-four licenses were granted to pot shops in Washington, one of only two states to legalize sales of marijuana for personal use, but only one of them is in Seattle, the state's largest city. James Lathrop, the owner of Cannabis City, told The Associated Press that he'd run completely out by Thursday afternoon amid a rush of sales at his and a handful of other shops across the state — sales so big that they generated excise taxes of $148,256 in just three days, the state liquor control board said.
