Riot Erupts During Soccer Game at Afghanistan's Kabul University

KABUL, Afghanistan -- A SWAT team was deployed after a riot broke out during a soccer game, a sign of worsening ethnic and religious tensions amid an election impasse engulfing Afghanistan. According to an eyewitness, the clashes erupted at Kabul University on Sunday after an argument broke out between two players but the fighting quickly spread.

Kabul police used tear gas to bring the situation under control. The university remained closed on Monday as the country's election commission was set to announce the results of the June 14 run-off vote, which has been tainted by allegations of fraud.
