What we know

  • AIRSTRIKES CONTINUE: Israel launched a massive attack on Iran yesterday, sparking retaliatory strikes on Israel from Iran. It marked a dramatic escalation in long-running tensions between the two heavily armed countries, and raises the risk of a wider regional war that some fear could draw in the U.S.
  • ISRAELIS TAKE SHELTER: The Israeli military urged citizens to "enter a protected space and remain there until further notice" after it identified additional missiles launched from Iran. At least three people have been killed by Iranian strikes and dozens injured. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said they will show "no mercy" to Israel.
  • IRANIAN RESIDENTS REPORT EXPLOSIONS: Iran’s nuclear capabilities, military leadership and scientists have been targeted in Israel’s strikes. Residents in Iran reported explosions into this morning, and at least 100 people have been killed and hundreds more injured, according to Iranian media. In a video address to Iranian people yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his fight is not against them, but against the Islamic regime.
  • U.S. INVOLVEMENT: A spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says talks over Tehran’s nuclear program between the U.S. and Iran that were scheduled for Sunday have been cancelled. Iranian officials blamed the U.S. and said today that their attacks will spread to American military bases in the region. President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that Russian President Vladimir Putin called him today, saying "He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end."

Israel has been striking Iran for nearly 40 hours straight in what it says is an effort to target the country's nuclear program, according to the IDF.

"Our air forces are completing a wave of strikes targeting the nuclear program at the heart of Iran," IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin said. "We destroyed the underground site in western Iran where dozens of missiles were stored. Natanz and Isfahan were struck."

The IDF said earlier today it struck an underground site in western Iran that was used to store and launch "surface-to-surface missiles and cruise missiles." The military shared video of what it said was the attack.

Defrin said Israel will "deepen the damage to Iran’s nuclear program," and that Tehran was yesterday's focus because it "is no longer immune."

"Alongside the operation in Iran, IDF forces and systems are deployed across all arenas of conflict, both in defense and offense, prepared for various developments and ready to protect the state and your security," Defrin said.

Defrin also said that the IDF has reinforced its troops in the West Bank, where it is "conducting offensive operations while also strengthening the defense of various communities and the security barrier."
