Buffalo residents say their community is still shaken after the tragedy at the Tops supermarket more than a year ago.

References to Rhodesia, the white minority-ruled African territory now known as Zimbabwe, have been made by the 2015 Charleston church shooter and segregationist lawmakers.

President Joe Biden condemned the shooting and said a federal civil rights probe was treating it “as a possible hate crime and act of domestic violent extremism.”

The shooting at a Dollar General devastated families, left a community in mourning and reminded the country yet again of the horrors of racist violence.

"Something has to be done about the legacy of racism in this city and how it still lingers so strongly throughout the city," one resident said.

A national security review by the Biden administration found that white supremacists represented one of the most “persistent and lethal threats” facing the homeland.

The shooter in the hate motivated attack at a Dollar General left messages that included his “disgusting ideology of hate,” Sheriff T.K. Waters said.
