Crews worked to restore power and clear debris after tornado-spawning severe storms tore through Wisconsin. One death was reported.
The storms moved through the state Wednesday evening, downing trees and power lines. One death was reported in Green Lake County, according to the National Weather Service.
One of the hardest hit areas was Waupun in Dodge County, about 60 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Authorities shut off access to Waupun to all but residents while crews worked to clear debris.
“There are wires down everywhere. There are several houses that have major damage,” said Debby Sisson after driving through part of the town to her mother’s home. “It’s a major mess. Very, very bad.”
A tornado touched down in Monroe County, the National Weather Service said, and three people were injured, two of them as the twister swept through a campground near Warrens.
There were other reports of damage elsewhere in central Wisconsin.
A tornado touched down in the rural Easton area, causing some injuries. Tornado touchdowns were also reported in Madison and Stevens Point.
