Robots will take over a square in downtown Brooklyn as part of this year's World Science Festival, a five-day event beginning on May 31, featuring some of the greatest minds in science and technology.
Over the course of the festival, the infinitesimal realms of quantum mechanics will be discussed by scientist and author Brian Greene (additional sessions have already been added after the first sold out), filmmaker Murray Campbell will screen his new film "Checkmate: How Computer Chess Changed the World," and neurologist Douglas Fields and others will discuss whether the brain is just a complex computer in the session "Architects of the Mind: A Blueprint for the Brain."
For those who want a hands-on experience, the World Sciene Festival offers plenty of opportunities to do more than listen and watch. In addition to the outdoor robot fair, amateur astronomers of all ages can attend an evening of stargazing in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Both of these free events are scheduled for Saturday, June 1.
The festival culminates on Sunday with an all-day science fair at Washington Square Park where families can investigate biology, climate change, energy, math and technology.
