One jobseeker was killed and another was shot after they responded to a Craigslist ad for a job on an Ohio cattle farm, officials said Thursday.

Two men were taken into custody after cadaver dogs found the body of a Florida man this week in a shallow grave in a remote area, said Noble County Sheriff Stephen Hannum.

The search was undertaken after a South Carolina man escaped from the same area on Nov. 6 and police found a grave they believe had been dug for him.

The two victims had responded to a bogus listing for a job as cattle caretaker at a 688-acre farm, Hannum said, adding that police suspect robbery was the motive.

WTOV TV reported that the man who survived told police that as he was walking with the suspects in a farm area he heard what sounded like a gun being cocked behind him.

He said he then turned and ran when he saw a gun pointed at his head. Shots were fired as he ran, one hitting him. After running two miles, he hid in the woods for about seven hours before seeking help.

The names of the victims or the suspects were not immediately released.
