A new iPad app from Scientific American is giving science fans a look into the world beyond the solar system.

The app Journey to the Exoplanets – which is available for $9.99 through the Apple App Store – provides stunning images of our universe, including panoramic pictures of an exoplanet’s surface using the iPad's accelerometer and gyroscope.

Images by illustrator Ron Miller can be viewed while listening to audio commentary from astrobiologist Caleb A. Scharf. The app also provides essays about exoplanets, an interactive 3D Star feature – which shows twenty stars within fourteen light years from the sun – and allows you to try out basic astronomy experiments.

It also includes images of plant life on exoplanets, as well as a 3D Planet Builder feature encourages users to get creative by developing their own exoplanet.
