An attack on Trapster has exposed the e-mail addresses and phone numbers of millions of customers of the speed-trap warning service.
The company, which sends messages to the smartphones and GPS units of its more than 10 million registered users warning them of police speed traps and other road hazards in their areas, issued an advisory on Jan. 19 about the hack.
“We believe it’s best to be cautious. So, if you’ve registered your account with Trapster, then it’s best to assume that your e-mail address and password were included among the compromised data,” the warning read.
Although it acknowledged a “security incident,” Trapster said it has not received any reports of users’ information being misused.
