Monica Novotny is an anchor for msnbc Live, which telecasts weekdays 6 a.m. ET- 5 p.m. ET and weekends beginning at 8 a.m. ET on msnbc.

Prior to joining msnbc Live, Novotny served as a correspondent for msnbc and NBC News. She reported on a wide range of stories including the anthrax crisis, the September 11th terrorist attacks, the Boston Catholic Church crisis, and Decision 2000. Novotny also served as an msnbc anchor. Her first assignment at the network was as the Web and Technology editor for “HomePage.”

Prior to joining msnbc, Novotny was an anchor and correspondent for Channel One News, an educational news program broadcast via satellite to high schools across the country. As a foreign correspondent she traveled around the world to cover numerous stories including the Kosovo conflict, the ‘99 earthquake in Golcuk, Turkey, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the death of Jordan's King Hussein, the thirtieth anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Prague, the ’97 eruption of the Montserrat volcano, and an archaeological dig in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. Many of her pieces were also featured on ABC’s World News Now. Domestically, Novotny's reports included the Clinton impeachment, Election Night '96 in Little Rock, the incineration of chemical weapons in Utah, and an in-depth look at the workings of the Central Intelligence Agency. She also reported on a number of teen issues including dyslexia, binge drinking, and drug abuse.

Novotny began her career as an intern at KNBC, the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles. While there she worked on “Today in L.A., Weekend.”

Novotny speaks Czech and French. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Gracie Award presented by the American Women in Radio and Television. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA, where she majored in mass communications and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She lives in New York City.
