A security scare kept an American Airlines jet scheduled to fly from Austin to Chicago on the ground on Friday. NBC News has learned the plane was searched and nothing hazardous was found.

Federal and local authorities are investigating the threat to Flight 2486, according to statesman.com, the Austin-based news Web site.

A passenger reportedly found a threatening note while the plane, carrying 129 passengers, was still on the ground. The jet was moved away from the main terminal while authorities looked into the matter, the Web site reported.

Officials said passengers will be questioned in the terminal. Jason Zielinski, an airport spokesperson, said bomb-sniffing dogs were patrolling the area.

The pilot reported the threat to the control tower after the plane had left the gate, Zielinski said.
