For the first time in years, Louisville Metro residents have an alternative to cable television.

AT&T launched it's U-verse programming on Monday. AT&T said the new evolving technology is 100 percent Internet protocol-based and brings more options for entertainment than cable.

U-verse is available in 19 other states. Kentucky is the newest on a list the company hopes to see grow even more.

“We've all been looking forward to this day, waiting patiently when we could offer our customers a choice of video service, so today they have the opportunity to break free from one provider,” said Mary Pat Regan with AT&T.

A ribbon was cut in honor of the launch of U-verse Monday at AT&T headquarters in Louisville.

The U-verse technology allows a consumer’s TV, PC, home and wireless phones to work together.

“When you bundle it with AT&T broadband and AT&T voice and then add AT&T wireless on top of it, you've got a true quad-play,” said AT&T ‘s Bryan Klamer.

Klamer said it gives customers the convenience they want in one bill. Klamer also said the company offers a service no other company does in the area.

“Up to a 110 HD channels on AT&T universe, that gives you the ability that nobody else has to watch HD,” said Klamer.

On top of the HD channels, U-verse also offers, weather, stocks, sports, traffic and fantasy sports results.

U-verse packages range in price from $49 to $109.

The initial launch of U-verse is limited to certain areas in the Louisville Metro.

More information is available at an AT&T retail store.
