In an effort to offer users a broad set of tools for tracking and researching their investments, msnbc.com this week launched new stock quote pages, covering thousands of publicly traded securities.

The new pages, shown at right, include expanded stock quotes, charts, company profiles, financial information and analyst ratings.

The pages can be found by clicking on the "live quote" links from related stories, the "market update" box on the daily stock story or by navigating directly to the new Markets subsection.

To find the stock quote you are looking for, simply enter the company name or stock symbol in the search box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and hit "Enter" or click the search symbol. To navigate through the stock quote page, click on the tabs listed above the company name.

For companies that have been in the news recently, headlines will appear below the stock quote information.

The new tool gives msnbc.com users customizable ways to find both current and historical stock prices and analyze trading data. It also makes it easier for users to compare a company’s stock price to its competitors or to other benchmarks.

Users also will be able to easily view and compare a company’s financial statements going back several years, peruse analyst ratings and look up details such as sales and revenue per employee.

To be quite honest, this change is long overdue. Msnbc.com users depend on us for the latest business news and deserve an easy way to track and research companies and investment ideas. With this new feature we take a major step toward a more complete integration of news and stock information.

Data for the new stock quote pages come from Interactive Data Corp., a leading provider of financial information to institutions and investors, which worked with msnbc.com to create the customized offering.

“Together we were able to develop a solution to help msnbc.com’s users more effectively analyze comprehensive financial data in order to make investment decisions,” said Luan Cox, general manager of Interactive Data Managed Solutions for the Americas.

For the next few days, as we transition to the new stock quote pages, you may encounter a mix of new and old stock quote pages, and there might be other technical glitches. By the end of the week the transition should be complete.
