MIAMI (AP) - A hurricane watch is out for the Baja California
peninsula for Jimena, which is a dangerous Category 4 storm off
Mexico’s Pacific coast.
The government of Mexico issued the watch Sunday. It extends
southward from Bahia Magdalena on the west coast around the
southern tip of the peninsula and northward to San Evaristo on the
east coast.
The center of the storm is 255 miles (410 km) south-southwest of
Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.
Forecasters say Jimena kicked up surf along the northwestern
coast and generated strong winds that bent trees in the resort town
of Zihuatanejo, uprooting at least one.
Forecasters say if Jimena stays on its northwestern track, it
would carry hurricane-force winds to the southern portion of
resort-dotted Baja California by Tuesday and slam into the
peninsula by Wednesday.
