KINGSVILLE - The Javelinas had a lot to celebrate after the Hoggies rallied from a 14-point hole to defeat third ranked Delta State in their home opener.
With the win it's safe to say Hoggie football is back on the map.
Turnovers and penalties nearly doomed blue in the first frame as a fumble and an interception led to Statesmen scores. However, the second, third and fourth frames were a different story.
Billy Garza found his rhythm through the air, as the offense piled on 28 points, racking up 506 total yards.
"I made the catch and I turned up field and I noticed that there was one guy free and I knew I wasn't going to settle for being tackled, so I just lowered my shoulder and let him have it," running back Connell Davis said.
"For our it builds the confidence up. I mean, we got a lot of confidence now, but we have stay humble and know there are better teams in conference than Delta States, so we have to keep our heads up and just ball out," wide receiver Ryan Lincoln said.
