Police arrested a man they said opened fire on a west Louisville home, killing an 18-year-old and seriously injuring two other teens.

The bullet holes are still visible where nearly 20 of them pierced a house on the 2600 block of Hale Avenue early Monday morning.

The shots killed 18-year-old LaJuan Smith and seriously injured two other teens.

There were a total of seven people inside the house.

Metro police said 20-year-old George Gonzalez is the man who fired the shots.

“He was a person of interest at the scene. We try not to limit our scope, but everything in this case led back to Mr. Gonzalez,” said Lt. Barry Wilkerson.

Gonzalez was arrested Friday morning during a routine traffic stop. He was later charged with murder, six counts of attempted murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Police said he used an assault weapon during the shooting.

“Anytime you can get someone of that caliber and those weapons off of the streets, it's a win for the community and hopefully it'll give this family some closure in this case,” said Wilkerson.

Police were called to the house just hours before Monday morning's shooting. They said Gonzalez showed up with another man and demanded to talk to someone inside. The people inside called police.

Police don't believe the second man had any part in the shooting but they do want to speak with him.

Smith's family learned of Gonzalez's arrest from Christopher 2X.

“They were very concerned about this young aggressive attitude and not seeing the sanctity of life,” said 2X. “But they were more focused on the two other boys in the hospital who were his friends.”

Anyone with information about the case should contact metro police at 574-LMPD.

Smith's funeral is scheduled for Saturday morning.

The two teens who were also shot are both still in the hospital. The 14-year-old is in critical, but stable condition. The 19-year-old is in stable condition.
