Entries Sought for Arkansas Senior Olympics

Calling all Arkansas seniors. The 2009 Arkansas Senior Olympic Games is looking for athletes to take part in next month's competition.

The games are September 16 - 20 in Hot Springs. The ages for competitors is 50+. The competitors participate in five year age increments. However, "The Kids," 45-49 ,are invited to compete for the first time.

The new "Kids " Division will give the younger group the opportunity to return to the sports they participated in high school and college. The younger athletes will be able to choose new events or renew interests in athletics and compete in their own age category.

Athletes may choose from 78 events, team sports, doubles and singles. Bocce and pickle ball will be held in Hot Springs Village.

Competition is held in badminton, bowling, basketball tournament, cycling, horseshoes, golf, racewalks, road races, competitive shooting and trap, shuffleboard, racquet ball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting, track and field.

Recreational games are basketball/softball/football throw, BB gun shoot, baggo, scrabble, skip bo. Bean bag baseball is for the senior center teams only.

The entry deadline is September 5.
