Hughes do Brasil will provide satellite backhaul services to connect 79 remote cellular base transceiver stations to their GSM networks over 60 months.

Hughes said the pact should eventually help provide cell phone access to about half a million consumers and businesses in the central and northeastern regions of Brazil.

Shares of Hughes Communications added 25 cents to $28.54 in afternoon trading.
