GARY, Ind. (AP) - A prosecutor has filed a murder charge against a man whom investigators say fatally shot his 18-month-old daughter in an apparent custody dispute before shooting himself in the head.
Authorities said Eboni Richardson was pronounced dead Thursday evening at Methodist Hospital following the shooting in a restaurant parking lot near the U.S. Steel Yard baseball stadium.
Gary police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King says the father, 22-year-old Cordell Richardson of Gary, was being treated Friday in the hospital's neurointensive care unit in Merrillville.
Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter says Richardson faces up to 65 years in prison if convicted.
Detectives say Richardson told a relative he did not want to lose his daughter.
