Note: Listed with won-loss record; previous ranking.
1. De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 1-0 (1)
Junior quarterback Kevin Lopina debuted strongly, going 9-of-12 for 171 yards and one TD, as the Spartans opened the season with a 47-0 blasting of San Jose Mitty, a team that won its first game the week before 49-0. Lopina also scored twice himself on short runs. De La Salle will go for its 140th consecutive win on Saturday at home vs. Palma of Salinas, which is the No. 18 team in California, according to CalHiSports.com.
2. Evangel Christian (Shreveport, La.) 1-0 (2)
Quarterback Denny Duron completed 12 of 20 passes for 196 yards and a TD and fullback Jacob Hester scored four TDs in a 45-0 blanking of host Suwannee at Live Oak, Fla. The Eagles start the most rugged three week stretch of their schedule on Saturday with a home matchup vs. Longview, Texas, a team they lost to last year. Evangel hosts Rockhurst of Missouri the following week and travels to Hoover, Ala., the week after that.
3. Warren Harding (Warren, Ohio) 4-0 (3)
The Raiders rebounded from an early 13-0 deficit to hand Youngstown Cardinal Mooney its first loss, 21-10. Warren Harding meets state-ranked Lakewood St. Edward (4-0) on Saturday.
4. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) 2-0 (4)
The No. 1 ranked Texas Class 5A team was idle last week and faces Aldine Eisenhower next. Like Lufkin, Eisenhower has been one of the top programs in Texas over the last 10 years.
5. Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos, Calif.) 2-0 (5)
Brooks Rossmans field goal gave the Griffins a 20-17 win over nationally-ranked Hart of Newhall, but the key play of the game turned out to be the one made in the very early moments by Sean Clark. His hit on Hart QB Sean Norton caused a fumble that All-American Randy Estes picked up and ran it in for a 20-yard touchdown. Los Al plays Brea-Olinda of Brea this week in what should be an easier game.
6. Palm Bay (Melbourne, Fla.) 2-0 (6)
Five players scored for the Pirates in a 36-14 win over Astronaut. All- America wide receiver-kick returner Xavier Carter returned a kickoff 91 yards for one score.
7. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) 4-0 (7)
Josh Bailey scored all three times he touched the ball -- twice on pass receptions and once rushing -- as the Warriors routed Terre Haute North, 69-0, while opening a new stadium with a homecoming. Looks like the players were able to enjoy some of the halftime festivities as well as the starters were pretty much finished for the evening.
8. Carroll (Southlake, Texas) 2-0 (9)
The defending state Class 5A-II champion won its second straight road victory, 30-0, over Burleson. Denison is next up as Carroll will seek 19th straight win.
9. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) 1-0 (10)
Don Bosco debuted with a 42-14 win over Ridgewood after falling behind 7- 0. Brian Toal scored three rushing touchdowns and Marquise Liverpool scored twice, once on a reception and the other on a punt return.
10. North Penn (Lansdale, Pa.) 3-0 (11)
Pennsylvania's No. 1 ranked Class 4A team routed Truman, 49-8. North Penn is averaging 40.7 points a game.
