Bill Press, a respected commentator with a liberal point of view, is a political analyst and contributor on MSNBC.
AN INVESTIGATIVE and political insider, Press has most recently been a political contributor to CNN, serving from 1996-2002 as a co-host of “Crossfire.” He also co-hosted “The Spin Room” with Tucker Carlson, an interactive politics-driven program that debuted on CNN in December 2000.
Press is a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, whose twice-weekly column is syndicated by the Chicago Tribune syndicate. He is also the author of “Spin This!”, an exploration of the culture of spin and its impact on American society, published by Pocket Books (Dec. 2001).
Press has enjoyed a high-profile career in government, politics and broadcasting that has spanned more than two decades. He was chairman of the California Democratic Party from 1993-1996, chief of staff to California State Senator Peter Behr and director of the California Office of Planning and Research under Gov. Jerry Brown. He has also managed several local and state political campaigns.
From 1980-1989, Press served as a political commentator in Los Angeles on KABC-TV, and later on KCOP-TV. In addition, he hosted “Bill Press: True American” and was a regular weekend host on KFI-AM, Southern California’s leading AM radio station. Press has received numerous awards for his work, including four Emmys and a Golden Mic Award. The Associated Press named him “Best Commentator of the Year” in 1992.
Press earned a bachelor of arts degree at Niagara University and an S.T.B. from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.
