Authorities in Haiti say heavy rains in the country's south have triggered flash floods that killed a father and son and destroyed dozens of homes.

Civil Protection official Sylvera Guillaume tells The Associated Press that at least 100 people have moved into the courthouse in the southern village of Dame Marie to escape floodwaters.

Guillaume said Thursday that more flooding was expected.

The heavy rain that began Tuesday has caused rivers to overflow their banks and destroyed farmland.

The latest flooding comes toward the end of what has been a devastating storm season in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Nearly 800 people have been killed in a series of storms to hit Haiti so far this year.
